Baccarat Advice

Baccarat

Which came first the Baccarat or the Blackjack?  According to folklore,  Baccarat was created and played 200 – 300 years prior to Blackjack.

These Casino Card Games are very similar, and liken to twins that are nearly identical other than the fact one has blue eyes and the other brown eyes.

The first outstanding feature that players will notice is that Baccarat goal is to total 9 in sum of the cards, while Blackjack goal is to total 21 in sum of the cards.  To beginners stepping up to the table, this difference is so subtle, many would not even realize the difference, since in Blackjack, face cards and 10s are worth 10 in count, but in Baccarat, face cards and 10s are worth 0 in count.  Thus, the result and the play look very much the same.

The next difference that will stand out is the fact that in Blackjack, players have control over whether they want to take another card (hit) or not take any more cards (stay).  In Baccarat, players have absolutely no control over the game once the cards are in play.  Thus, it is widely considered, odds of winning in Blackjack are slightly higher than in Baccarat.

Also, in Baccarat, players have choices at to which hand will be the winner, Player, Dealer, or a 3rd choice of Tie.

It is generally accepted, that the Dealer Hand has a bit more than 1% odds of winning, due to the fact that Dealer Hand can take an extra card if is showing Beat on the table.  But, taken into consideration that betting on the Dealer Hand comes with an automatic give away (commision) of 5%, so betting on the Player Hand is probably the better choice.  The 3rd choice of betting on a tie in Total comes with payout of 8x the bet, but probably is not a good bet, since the probability of the tie lies somewhere between about 10% – 12%, depending on the statistician formulating the math.

Know the Odds

Generally accepted odds are that Player Hand will win a little less than 45% of the time, and Dealer Hand will win just below 46% of the time.  A tie is expected at around almost 10% of the time.

So, are the Odds 50/50?  No, a coin flip is 50/50, and Baccarat is not as even in the odds as a coin flip.  The Game is set to be slightly in the House favor.

Why play Baccarat?

While a Coin flip has slightly better Odds at 50/50, the thrill of anticipation of winning or losing is simply lightning fast.  In Baccarat, the vision of the game and numbers progressing comes with its own set of exuberance and hope.

Okay, the Coin flip explanation makes sense, by why not choose the option of playing Blackjack instead?  Well, while the camaraderie of  Baccarat and Blackjack are very similar, newbies to the Casino may prefer Baccarat, due to the fact there is simply no control in the game and these new players, can relax and enjoy easier without being so mentally involved.

And, taking the mental involvement 1 step further, there are players at the Casino, that might just voice their opinion on “hits” they feel that maybe the newbie should not have taken.  So, if relaxation and enjoyment at the Casino is more satisfying for the individual player, and Math is not his/her strong trait, then maybe Baccarat is the better option to keep the smiles.
