Greyhound/Dog Racing Tips to Win

Greyhound/Dog Racing

Although our website and lists of Betting Tips are for conventional Casino Wagering, we are adding Greyhound/Dog Track Racing for those site visitors that might be interested in a separate item here of Pari-Mutuel Betting.  It is customary for Pari-Mutuels establishment (House) to receive 8% of the Race Winnings. (Purse).  So, how can we hope to win if we are giving up 8% already?  We believe Greyhound Racing does have opportunities for a Winning Strategy.

How Greyhound/Dog Racing differs from other forms of Betting:

Common Pari-Mutuels are Horse Racing, Greyhound/Dog Racing, Jai-Alai, and in some regions of the world Rooster/Cock Fighting, etc.  For our examples we will touch upon the commonly known first 3, of Horse Racing, Greyhound Racing, and Jai-Alai.

Greyhound/Dog Racing differs in the fact that there is simply no human interaction once the dogs are placed in the Starting Gate/Box.

Horse Racing is much controlled by the skills and decisions of the Jockeys (Horse Riders).  Interference or bumping of other horses in the race can and in cases, does lead to disqualification.

Jai-Alai is 100% betting on the Play of humans, and sometimes leads to skepticism in the outcomes and final placing results at Game End.

In the contrary, Dog Racing is penalty free and in many races (if not most) the race itself is chaotic.  Bumping, falling, flipping, rolling are not penalized in Dog Racing, but actually are the Norm.

Why Bet on Greyhounds?

Why would anyone want to bet on a race that in several cases is chaotic?  Actually, that is what distinguishes Greyhound Racing as different, and actually can be more fun and exciting, since the outcome is not so predictable.

How to bet on the Greyhound Races and who wins?

Generally, Betting is based on $2 Bets.  In short theory, there are Payouts (winning payments) for wagering on any of the top 3 Finishers in the race.

The Total Amounts Bet (Purse) are divided in each Bet Category to the winning Bettors in Payouts. (Less 8% to the Pari-Mutuel establishment.

Typical Finishes example Payouts would be:

The aforementioned are examples only, and are completely separate Bets.  The Winner Bet does not qualify to receive distribution of Place and Show Bets, etc.

Additional Bet Options in Pari-Mutuels:

Also in most Pari-Mutuels there are more exotic bet options that are generally higher risk and higher payouts:

Read the Program (Racing Form):

Place Your Bet to be getting paid Winning Money

Generally, in Pari-Mutuels and particularly in Horse and Greyhound/Dog Racing, in almost all the races, there is a clear cut favorite to win.  And, often, the favorite does win.  But, being the favorite might cause the Payouts to be small in comparism to Bettors bets.

In Example:  Win bets might pay $2.80 on correctly betting $2 on the First Place Winner.   Place bets might pay $2.50 on correctly betting on the Place bet of choosing 1 of 1st or 2nd place Finisher.  And, Show bets might pay $2.30 on correctly betting on the Show bet of choosing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Place Finisher.  We consider this not very profitable and particularly in Greyhound Racing, where things are chaotic, is not a good return on the inherent risk.

In comparism, some Bettors might simply bet on the big odds of Greyhounds or Horses not considered to win.  For example, a Racing Dog, might go in at 20-1 Odds, and if chosen to win, then the Winning bettor win collect nearly $40 on the $2 Bet.  And, of course this theory and betting strategy will often follow into the Place and Show bets.

How to Bet on Greyhounds to Win Money

Overall, we have 2 suggestions to be in the money more often, gain payouts, and have a good chance of coming out ahead at the Greyhound Races.

Why Bet Trifecta Wheel or Quiniela Wheel on Greyhound Racing?

As mentioned previously, Greyhound/Dog Racing can be chaotic.  Often, the Racing Dogs will collide with each other and there is no penalties.  Thus, the results can be anyone’s educated guess.  On the other hand, if a Greyhound Race has a history of breaking out early and holding ground, then whatever happens behind that Racing Greyhound, has no influence on that Racing Contestants final Winner or 2nd place in the finish.  Thus, betting on 1 favorite Racing Greyhound is a book wager and often times will result in payout.

There is a downside to the strategy of betting on the Trifecta or Quiniela Wheels.  Of course, there is the risk that your Racer may not be the Winner, or in the case of the Quiniela 1st or 2nd Place.  Thus, your Wager is lost on that specific race.  In contrary, since the Greyhound Race is predicatably chaotic, it is very possible a long shot (high odds contestant or contestants)  might end up in the positions that bettors need to round out the 2nd or 3rd positions qualify bettors for the final payout.  Overall, the upside scenario happens often, and our opinion is the Trifecta and Quiniela Wheels for Greyhound Racing Bettors is a good bet.  We do recommend to not bet “Wheels” on A Grade Races, since those contestants are all top racers and more difficult to predict winners.
